Third beach session in a week's time, that's a personal record! Only to experiment with my CamOne's time-lapse mode of course. I wouldn't want to get a tan, I'm here as a daylight shunning cave diver after all.

After breakfast and a copious amount of sun lotion I grabbed myself one of Villa Matisse's Beach Cruisers and headed for la playa, even against a moderate wind an easy 25' ride, now that there's a nicely paved bicycle path all the way to the T-junction, where I turned left, following the road till a public beach section, used by local fishermen as anchoring site for their lanchas.

Having nothing to do I tried to shoot a time-lapse with my CamOne infinity securely wrapped around a washed up tree log using a small Gorillapod, thereby forcing me to stay at least half an hour in the blazing sun. Most of it turned unusable though due to fogging up of the housing's domed lens…

Temperature quickly rising and there being no free shade in sight, I soon saddled up again, biking back to el pueblo in only 20', now aided all the way by the refreshing sea breeze.


It's actually possible to go by foot, but only if you're crazy like a loco. By taxi, the official tourist price is 50 Pesos one way, i.e. about 3€.

Tulum beach... endless & timeless. My project though is coming to an end and it's time for me to repack all my stuff for the journey home.


After having missed the first two flybys I just managed to get my camera in time for the third airborne flight of pelicans gliding by.

Peaceful morning at the beach, for two bright hours of working on my tan, pseudo-yoga & salt water bath, early enough to avoid the noontime rush of hardcore sun worshippers. Being here as a creature of the dark, I'd of course smeared myself from head to toe with SPF20 before exposing myself to full daylight. To my own surprise, I actually quite enjoyed it, and almost regretted leaving so early, but there being almost no shade to hide, I fled back to my safe place in town.


No hot & stubborn walking was involved this time, like a good local economy supporting tourist I took a cab both ways, of which there are 480 in Tulum (and supposedly about 1500 in Playa & 5000 in Cancun).

Sun drenched day at the beach, barely 5km away from downtown Tulum, but another world all together, reachable by taxi for 40-60 Pesos. After having met some old acquaintances at La Zebra, I didn't hang around too long before marching off again. All the way back to Tulum pueblo, a rather hot, not to say rationally insane, 8km stroll.

Hard work...

...decompressing at the beach, trying to avoid getting: sunburned, dehydrated, hit by wild coconuts and over-stressed by another day-off's many tasks.
